My name is Amanda Broadhurst. I have worked at Balmoral Care Home for 30 years this June and I have 2 boys Aaron & Benjamin (31 years & 23 years). My partner of 30 years is David and my family mean the world to me. They have put up with mum who is always at work, working nights and days from cleaning, cooking, caring and to manager. Once I left school, I worked at a post office in Winsford, Cheshire.

I moved back to Mottram 1988 & worked at Ashton Brothers (Making & inspecting hospital blankets). I then had my first son in 1989 called Aaron. I then went working at the local chip shop in Mottram for just over twelve months. I noticed a job advertised for staff at Balmoral so I was interviewed and started work within 3 days.

 I started as a carer in 1993 and started to do my Level 2 health & social care at night college and then went on to do Level 3. I was asked to become a senior carer in 1995/ Administrator to help out in the office. I really enjoyed doing a bit of both. I then had my second son Benjamin in Jan 1997. I remained at home for 6 months and then started back work as senior, working with the nurses which I loved.

In 2008 it was becoming harder to get nurses so in 2009 Mr & Mrs Lambert decided they would change from a Nursing Home to a residential Home. They had been looking for a manager for a while and Mr Lambert kept asking me if I would like to take up the Job. I really didn’t have the confidence to do the job. Then as staff kept saying you do many different roles so go for it. I had also done my Level 5 Management in care so I went for the job and was accepted. I have done many courses over the years which I find interesting.

I feel very proud of what I have managed to achieve throughout my time at Balmoral and I have always been very compassionate about caring for the elderly. I have met so many lovely people including relatives from years ago that I still see now. I have had so many compliments on how lovely the staff are at Balmoral, caring, kindness and other lovely messages.

My hobbies include swimming and walking but most of all I love my Formula 1 racing. I have travelled to Melbourne, Singapore, Monaco, Greece and good old Silverstone.
